Academics - Bureche School



Middle School is comprised of Seventh and Eighth Grade. All teachers of Middle school are certificated native speakers of English with excellent recommendations. Class size in Middle School is 25 maximum and there are two grade levels per class. The curriculum for English and Math is based on the Common Core Standards. Students are tested with the Measure of Academic Progress test (MAP) twice a year in order to align our curriculum to the Core Standards. The school day for Middle School begins at 6:55 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m.



PreSchool consists of Kindergarten, First and Second Grade. We have two classes for each grade. Teachers of Preschool are certificated foreigners with excellent recommendations. Students that apply for Kindergarten must be 5 years old by august of that year. Most of kindergarten students come from our feeder school: Jardin Bureche. Class sizes for Kindergarten and First grade are 25 students with a teacher assistant. Kindergarten children are immersed in oral English and learn how to read and write in Spanish. By First Grade our students learn to read and write in English . Kindergarten and Preschool begin their school day at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m.



Elementary school is Second Grade to Sixth Grade. All Language Arts and Social Studies Teachers in the Elementary grades are native speakers of English, certificated with excellent recommendations. Our policy is to accept students up to third grade without any English. After third grade students must pass an English entrance exam. Each grade has two sections of 25 students each. Second and Third grade have teacher assistants. Elementary school has a double curriculum. We comply with the Colombian Ministry of Education requirements and with the AdvancED requirements. In English, we use the Core Standards for English and Maths. We have two hours of Physical Education a week, which include swimming and dance. Students are tested with the Measure of Academic Progress test (MAP) twice a year in order to align our curriculum to the Core Standards. The school day for Elementary begins at 6:55 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m.



High School is made up of Grades Ninth to Twelfth. At the end of Twelfth Grade students receive the Colombian Bachillerato Diploma and the High School Diploma.

In twelfth grade students take the required Colombian State Test ICFES needed to enter Colombian universities. Our students have always scored in the highest category: "Muy Superior" that allows them to enter Colombia´s finest universities. Students in Eleventh Grade  take the PSAT and if interested in pursuing a university career in the United States take the SAT. Colegio Bureche is a testing center for the PSAT, SAT and TOEFL.

Rainbow Week is a special week during the school year dedicated to integration, competition and above all fun. Teams are formed from across grade levels challenging students’ teamwork, individual and leadership abilities through a series of competitions, tasks and events.
